Wyoming governor Matt Mead is flying around the world to learn about alternative energy.
Mead and other state leaders will travel to China this week for a conference on advanced coal technologies.
The conference takes place every two years and aims to further coal technology research.
During the trip Mead will visit coal-to-liquid plants and promote Wyoming business in the region.
The governor says coal technology is important for the state of Wyoming.
"This is a big enough issue that is coal and energy to Wyoming, that collectively we all need to see what others have done and see if we can take back some good ideas."
Secretary of state Max Maxfield will serve as acting governor until Mead's return on June 11th.
