It was a dramatic scene. A 14 hour stand-off finally came to an end Tuesday evening when 27 year-old Andres Gonzalez died after a shoot-out in Downtown Alliance.
The incident began when Gonzalez walked into Thiele Pharmacy and Gifts armed with a gun.
Gonzalez exchanged gunfire shooting 43 year-old officer Kirk Felker during the initial response.
"You could just see the blood coming down his arm and everything. They had him lying on the corner and the ambulance came and got him," said witness Cheryl Moser.
Responding officers quickly evacuated the area and called in additional resources.
"They called and told us to get out, to get out of the store and we went out the back door."
Gonzalez locked himself inside the pharmacy taking owner Charles Lierk hostage who later escaped.
"There was a hostage in the facility, and he did escape basically on his own," Lieutenant Lance Rogers.
Lierk was shot twice before being transported to alliance hospital.
Six hours later more shots were fired between Gonzalez and the Nebraska State Patrol SWAT team.
Gonzalez was confirmed dead at the scene.
Alliance city officials say it took a team effort to keep their small town safe.
"We are very grateful again for all the assistance and team effort that has helped us at least get to the point we are at today."
