The City of Scottsbluff is close to completing *their* part of the quiet zone.
Construction of cement islands to prevent cars from trying to beat crossing arms are completed at 20th, 9th, and 5th Avenue.
Next week crews will build the islands for the Avenue B railroad crossing, before moving to Avenue I and Broadway.
Once those remaining three islands are built, the city's job will be done.
It will then be up to Burlington Northern Sante Fe to install electronic warning signals at each crossing. Once that is completed, the city can certify it as a quiet zone.
