University of Nebraska-Lincoln to open office in Beijing

Posted: Updated:

A Nebraska college hopes a foreign office will create new opportunities for faculty and students.

The University of Nebraska's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources division has opened an office in Beijing, China.

The new office will work with China's state administration of grain to increase access to foreign networks.

The effort will also broaden exchange opportunities and research projects for faculty and students.

Director of the UNL Panhandle Extension Center Linda Boeckner says the office offers a unique opportunity for the university.

"It opens up the possibility of building up stronger relationships, and the hope is that it will perhaps increase trade over time and increase access to other government agencies."

The office officially opened June 11th.

Representatives from Nebraska visited Beijing twice in the past year to negotiate the new office.
