Family seeks answers in unsolved Scottsbluff murder case

Posted: Updated:

Murder. 10 months later, still no suspects and few other answers.

Last August, police found 49-year old Ralph McGee beaten to death in his apartment at Scottsbluff's Cirrus House Assisted Living.

Until this week , Scottsbluff Police had maintained McGee's apartment as an active crime scene. But they say there's nothing left to find there.

As the next chapter unfolds, we find out about the family's latest effort to find Ralph's killer.

After months of torture ... Kathy Flippin returned to Scottsbluff. Her brother Ralph's personal items were waiting for her . But he wasn't there, nor were answers about his death.

"Because the possessions to me don't mean anything without my brother," explains Flippin, who traveled more than 2500 miles this past week to take care of some her brother's affairs.

She's still trying to understand what happened; as the police still try and search for clues.

"The police have been very helpful. They've answered the questions the best they can. They are trying the best they can. They got a lot of people working on this."

"The investigation is still going on," says Scottsbluff Police Captain Brian Wasson. "We're following up on some leads that we've generated as recently as her being at the residence and being contacted by some individuals. Those tips are being followed up on as we speak."

Investigators have DNA evidence on file but say they need a suspect to compare it to.

"If you don't have a suspect to compare that evidence to,its' difficult to link a person to a location," adds Wasson.

Adding to this mystery is what people remember about Ralph. From all accounts,.Ralph McGee was just an all around nice guy, so the brutal murder shocked and stunned those who knew him best.

"Ralph was the kindest person anyone would ever meet," says his sister. "He would give you anything had you just asked. He would give it to you. He never hurt a person."

"He was friendly, easy going, always believed in helping people out," says friend Ronald Erdman. "Like on Mondays, they'd have bingo at Cirrus Assisted Living and he'd go buy pop for everybody."

Now everybody who Ralph helped, wants to help him by finding his killer.

"You know it was not an intentional thing," explains Flippin. "It was just something that got out of hand. Then I can see it in my heart and the family's heart to ask for leniency and the person just gets the help that they need. That's all we want."

Scottsbluff Police Captain Brian Wasson says all they need is just a few missing pieces of the puzzle.

Anybody with information on the death of Ralph McGee is asked to call the Scottsbluff Police Department at 308-630-6261.
