Local people come together to help recovery from addiction

Posted: Updated:

Community members recovering from substance abuse rallied together to support one another and raise awareness this weekend.

Region 1 Behavioral Health and the Panhandle Mental Health Center hosted the first annual Recovery in the Bluffs rally this weekend at Five Rocks Amphitheater in Gering.

The event was centered around Brian "Head" Welch formerly of the band KoRn who told his personal addition story and how he got sober.

Event organizers really just wanted to show people how to have a fun weekend...clean and sober.

Event organizer, Judie Wolff-Moorehouse says, "You know there's fun things you can do and still not have to go to the bar and get drunk and go out and do that stuff. You can do it while you're sober and you can do it with other people who are the same."

The two day event featured: a 5-k walk/run, a motorcycle run and show plus tons of live music from local bands.
