A man is dead after an incident that began in downtown Crawford ends up with a standoff with police deputies.
The Nebraska State Patrol is reporting that 40-year-old Chad Sorensen of Minatare brandished a weapon to Dawes County Sheriff Deputies at approximately 11 p.m. Tuesday . He then got in his car and drove out of town onto Highway 2/ 71.
Officers proceeded to follow the man, who pulled over about three miles south of town. From there a standoff began between the man and the deputies.
After several hours, the officers approached the vehicle, and the man was dead from a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
State law requires a Grand Jury be convened whenever anyone dies while in the process of apprehension or in the custody of law enforcement.
