Crops struggling with high heat

Posted: Updated:

Record high temperatures across KOTA Territory put a strain on panhandle farmers.

So far,  mother nature has been cruel this summer. Scorching temperatures,  damaging hail storms, and high winds made it difficult to get a crop started.

Sugar beet farmer Kendall Bush says much of his beet crop that were flood irrigated is already lost.  "It's tough on the small crop like this. 85 to 90 degrees is perfect, and the wind- the wind is a big thing. Every day the wind seems to be blowing."

Bush says his sugar beets need to be irrigated soon,  or this years crop may be less than ideal.
