Community members enjoy free dental services

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of dentists work to bring brighter and whiter smiles to the panhandle.

The Nebraska Mission of Mercy kicked of their 2012 dental days this morning in Alliance.

The annual event provides free dental care for adults and children around state.

Dentists and hygienists from around the country were on hand to help with everything from routine cleanings to full oral extractions.

People began lining up as early as yesterday evening to take part in the service and they say it was worth the wait.

"I really needed it so it's good. I'm really glad that they came and brought this to town," Alliance resident Maria Bruney said.

University of Nebraska college of dentistry dean John Reinhardt says he brings his students to help them gain exposure in the field.

"Part of our mission is to serve people. Obviously we have to educate dentists and dental hygienists and part of their training is getting out and getting out doing community service at events like this."

The Alliance dental days will continue tomorrow from 5:30 AM to 5 PM.
