Dawes Co. remains tentatively ID'd

Posted: Updated:

The human remains discovered in a pasture in rural Dawes County on Monday, July 16th have been tentatively identified by investigators from the Dawes County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.

A positive identification is pending and will not be released until confirmation is made through dental records or DNA testing against samples from suspected, living family members.

A preliminary examination of the remains has been completed by Scottsbluff Pathologist Dr. Pete Schilke in an effort to assist the Dawes County Coroner and investigators in determining the cause of death.

The remains will be further examined by a forensic anthropologist based in Colorado, and additional witnesses will be interviewed prior to a suspected cause of death being released.

The investigation continues and is being completed by the Dawes County Sheriff's Office, the Dawes County Attorney/Coroner's office and the Nebraska State Patrol.
