Parade helps kick of Scotts Bluff County Fair

Posted: Updated:

The 125th annual Scotts Bluff County Fair got underway in full swing this morning with the annual parade.

Hundreds of people crowded the streets of Mitchell to watch entrants march towards the fairgrounds.

Crowd favorites today were pageant contestants for Miss Scotts Bluff County… a barrage of fire trucks from departments across the county…and any group that was tossing candy to children.

But the lack of marching bands was a disappointment for many.

The Mitchell High School marching band was the only band to march in today's parade, but they were happy to be there.

"Well we need to make the people happy and that most of the time, a parade is not full without a band, and you need a band there," explains band member Christopher Armstrong. "Mitchell is usually the only band, and we're proud to be the only band."

Armstrong says that he and his band mates had three weeks of practice leading up to today's parade.
