Good turn out at Junior Livestock sale

Posted: Updated:

More than 270 animals were up for sale at the Junior Livestock auction at the Scottsbluff County Fair.

Kids raised pigs, steers and lambs as part of their 4H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) projects.

Livestock buyers from all over the region called out bids for the prized animals.

Junior Livestock Sale Chairman, Justin Welsh, says the sales helps the kids learn about the fluctuation in the agriculture economy. "We've seen some effect from the drought and the economy. The sale just started and the prices are a little bit lower. Our buyback bids are a little lower than they have been in the past."

Welsh says the number of animals in the Junior Livestock Sale are up over previous years.

Most of the animals sell for at least 600 dollars.
