As Senate and Congress members break for their august recess, a KOTA Territory politician meets with constituents on the home - front.
It was a packed house in Congressman Adrian Smith's Scottsbluff office Monday, and he addressed the soon-to-be-expired Farm Bill.
The congressman says as of today, there aren't enough votes to pass a new bill.
Ongoing debates on the future of direct payments, food stamps, and taxes on producers have halted the bill from progressing. Smith says he doesn't think any particular issue should be a deal breaker.
"But we need good policy, we know there's been a huge growth in the nutrition title, and we cannot afford to have unlimited spending continuing to take place."
The Republican says fortunately, there are few ag producers solely depending on the Farm Bill.
