Several Scottsbluff residents are displaced after a morning fire erupts in an apartment complex.
Scottsbluff and Gering fire crews responded to a fire at the R.C. Scot apartments around 8:30 Friday morning.
The fire was contained to just one room, although there was some smoke damage throughout the building.
Residents say it was a scary way to start out the day. "So I ran out the door, going down the stairs and smelled the smoke and headed on out," explains Scott Weimer, who lives in the apartment.
Fire Chief Dana Miller says it was fortunate that the apartment complex had a top-of-the-line fire alarm system. "This is a fire protected building, so we have strobes, audible and vision devices in the building that got everybody out of the structure so they were out of harms way."
Investigators do not yet have a cause of the fire or any estimate to the dollar amount on the damages.
