Police capture escaped felon

Posted: Updated:

More than a four hour manhunt ends with an escaped convict back into police custody.

The Scottsbluff Police Department arrested 31-year-old James Bannister and his wife, 27-year old Jennifer Edwards at her home at 215 W. 23rd Street.

Bannister escaped from Lincoln on Tuesday when he was given a work pass from a correctional institute to apply for a job. Bannister stole a vehicle, which ended up abandoned and on fire, in Scottsbluff on Thursday.

Bannister was serving a 4-10 year sentence in the Nebraska Prison System for a 2011 burglary conviction.

Area schools were placed on lockout- meaning administrative staff are letting known subjects into the building. People who the staff do not know are allowed to leave or enter.

Bannister will be booked on charges- unknown at this time- in Scotts Bluff County, before he is extradited back to Lincoln.
