96th anniversary of National Park Service draws public to parks

Local monuments and state parks celebrate the 96th anniversary of the National Park Service with fun activities.

Agate Fossil Beds is celebrating a the anniversary of the National Park Service with a scavenger hunt and hike for kids of all ages.

Plus Indian artist Carol Snow will be showcasing her hand-embossed metals.

Scottsbluff National Monument Ranger Lesley Gaunt says the National Park Service has really helped add a lot of resources to parks and monuments. "With an agency overseeing the parks specifically, I think they've been able to really bring the parks ahead and as the agency has grown they've added more facets to the workforce."

The National Park Service was created in 1916. National parks, monuments and battlefields used to be managed by the military.
