5 Whiteclay protesters released from custody

Posted: Updated:

Charges are pending against several protestors given citations yesterday in Whiteclay, Nebraska during a demonstration against alcohol distributors in the small town.

Five protesters from an organization called deep green resistance, locked their arms together in some type of tube and sat in the middle of the street.

They were arrested last night after roughly seven hours of sitting in the road.

They were carted off still locked together in a horse trailer.

During two separate arrests, Sheridan County Sheriff's Deputies used pepper spray and innocent bystanders were hit including a 10-year-old boy.

Accidental pepper spray victim, William Matchett says, "As I was filming from behind the cop car, the window came down and he held out his mace can and sprayed another youth right full in the face who wasn't a threat to him, who was just trying to talk to the officer."

The Sheridan County Attorney's Office confirms the 5 were released from the Sheridan County Jail on their own recognizance after agreeing to unlock themselves.

Deep Green Resistance says on its website the protestors face up to $10,000 dollars in fines collectively.
