Lincoln Elementary back in full swing

Posted: Updated:

Students and staff at one KOTA Territory school are finally getting settled in their new home.

The learning environment at Lincoln Elementary has been a work in progress for the past year - and - a -half.

In December of 2010, staff moved everything out so demolition of the old school building could begin.

Teachers and students were relocated to the old Aurora Loan Building in Scottsbluff while their new school was being built.

Last week, everyone was able to start the new school year in their permanent home.

Principal George Schlothauer says it has been a welcome change. "I know the staff is enjoying it. The last year-and-a-half we had partial walls where the walls didn't go all the way to the ceiling, and so there was always lots of noise from other classrooms with everybody else instructing. So they're glad to have a door that closes and four walls around them."

The new Lincoln Elementary school was made possible in 2010 after voters approved a nearly eight - million dollar bond for the new building.
