Experts field questions and explain Nebraska's options on how to obtain health insurance as the state tries to create a health insurance exchange.
Members from the Nebraska Department of Insurance kicked off a series of information meetings last night in Gering.
Nebraska has to submit a blueprint to the federal government on how they plan to participate in a mandated health insurance exchange program by November 16th.
Three options that Nebraska is looking at right now are a state based exchange, a partnership exchange, and a federal exchange.
Local health insurance agent Shane Ferguson is overwhelmed because there is a lot of information being presented with such a short time frame to act.
"Honestly, I think the whole town should be here watching this," explains Ferguson. "because there is a lot of affect that will be taking place that's going to really impact peoples livelihood- their income, how they're going to afford health insurance- how I'm going to have a career- there's a lot of things that are really uncertain."
Under current federal guidelines, all state insurance exchanges need to be fully operational by January 1, 2014, and self sustaining by 2015.
