The number of mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile Virus continues to increase in the Panhandle
The Scottsbluff County Health Department reports there's been 4 positive cases of West Nile in humans in the Panhandle and 20 across the state.
Director of Health and Human Services, Bill Weinman says with cooler weather on the way and more outdoor activities -people need to take extra steps to protect themselves.
Weinman says, "We have had positive mosquitoes from nearly every location where we collect mosquitoes here in the county and the numbers of positive mosquitoes at those locations have been increasing pretty dramatically."
A few tips Weinman says to help prevent bites include:
- using insect repellent with deet
-wearing long sleeves
-and avoid being outside an hour before and after dawn and dusk
