Donations being sought for northern Panhandle firefighters

Posted: Updated:

Local businesses have teamed up to help collect goods to bring to firefighters on the front line in the northern panhandle.

Water, Gatorade, t-shirts and socks are just some of the biggest needs for the men and women battling these treacherous fires.

Mike Pelster of Mike's Husker Stuff began collection efforts yesterday.

He said that a friend on the front line battling the fires in Sheridan County turned to him for help.

"Well I had a phone call yesterday from a friend in Rushville and their fire department was in big need of t-shirts because they get so sweaty when they're fighting and water and Gatorade and snacks and socks. So I guess I have the right connections in town and actually when on facebook and told everybody and what a response from the community. It was phenomenal."

The Scottsbluff Fire Department and Nebraska Trucking Company have already taken supplies up to the firefighters in the northern panhandle.

Community members looking to donate some of these items can bring donations to Mike's Husker Stuff or the Scottsbluff Fire Department.

As each truckload is filled, they will be driven up north and given to the firefighters.
