A Western Nebraska Livestock Auction company violated child labor laws and now they have to pay for it.
The U.S. Department of Labor recently assessed $47,000 dollars in penalties against Valentine Livestock Auction Company in Valentine, Nebraska.
Officials say the company was investigated after a 15-year-old worker was crushed against a metal gate by a calf while she was herding cattle.
A spokesman from the auction house says the company was not aware it was considered a non-agricultural employer and had to follow more strict rules about what young workers could do.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor the auction company had 26 other violations.
