A generation of KOTA Territory veterans receive honorary welcomes as they journey to the nation's capitol.
14 world war two veterans from across the panhandle were escorted by Patriot Guard riders today on their journey to Denver International Airport.
These "honor flight" members are en route to Washington D.C. to visit the Veterans Memorial, which honors them.
First Avenue in Scottsbluff was lined with flag bearers, who wanted to send the veterans off right.
"It's long past due, they have set a standard that no others have ever met," says Post 5 Adjutant Beth Linn.
The veterans say they are excited to visit the sights in the nation's capital. Some have not been to Washington D.C. since before the war.
"I took my basic training just outside of Washington," explains U.S. Army Veteran William Hindman of Hay Springs. "(It was a) little place called Fort Bellvoir."
"I know it's going to be a great trip and I'm really, really looking forward to it," adds Scottsbluff veteran Marion Humphrey.
The group continued its journey today through Kimball and Fort Morgan before arriving in Denver.
