While the Boy scouts were in the water, the Cub Scouts were on dry land learning first-hand survival skills.
Local cub scouts put their smarts to the test in the first ever chuck wagon skills day.
The boys work in teams to complete several challenges and learn new skills like archery, leather stamping, first aid and cooking.
But it's not all fun - and - games, Scouts will face theoretical obstacles over the day, like getting "robbed" or "bitten" by snakes ...to test their teamwork and problem solving skills.
Cub Scout, Zach Henke says, "We're out here doing chuck-wagon skills, fishing, we're doing cooking, archery, bb gun shooting, first aid and arts."
Scout leaders say it is still important for young boys to learn essential survival tactics even in the age of technology.
Boy Scouts of America Leader, Gary Shoemaker says, "Everything in scouting is actually designed around three things, leadership, citizenship and personal moral fitness. And that's what we're trying to do, so for example when a boy learns about first aid he's learning a skill but he's also learning to help other people."
Scout leaders say they're combining fun and friendly competition between the boys.
