Nebraska fire fighters having to dip in to cash reserves

Posted: Updated:

Wildfires across the state are straining rural fire department budgets.

The heat and drought driven fires in Western and Central Nebraska are forcing fire departments to dip into their cash reserves.

Some departments are even asking residents to approve tax increases to help cover their fuel and maintenance costs

Officials say that some volunteer fire fighters have even had to use vacation time to help answer the repeat emergency calls and some have even had to leave their businesses unattended.
