One Scottsbluff business is keeping extra busy thanks in part to a new Nebraska state law.
Midwest Electronics has been installing more ignition interlock devices on cars for people convicted of driving under the influence.
The new law forces most people convicted of a first- and second-offense D.U.I. to have interlock devices installed.
Drivers must exhale into the devices before the vehicles can start. If a device detects alcohol at a pre-set level, the vehicle won't start.
Nebraska is on pace to see a 20 percent increase in the number of ignition interlock devices installed ... In turn, keeping business owners like Andy Weitzel busier than usual.
"There's definitely a lot more interlocks being installed just since the laws have changed," explains Weitzel, "And there's definitely a lot in the area that we've had to install."
The law also has reduced the number of license revocation hearings by 90 percent.
