State treasure to auction off unclaimed property on ebay

The State of Nebraska will soon auction off unclaimed property on eBay.

State Treasurer Don Stenberg says there are 272 lots being auctioned off on eBay on Monday.

The items like coins and jewelry are unclaimed property left in safe deposit boxes.

Stenberg says the bank holds onto the items for 5 years before turning them over to the state which keeps the items for another 5 years before holding an auction.

Proceeds from the sale are recorded in the original owner's name and are held indefinitely or until the money is claimed.
