Scotts Bluff National Monument is celebrating 75 years without a tough hike to the top.
Today marks the 75th anniversary of the completion of Summit Road, which allows people to drive to the top of the bluff.
The road opened in 1937, after four years of on-and-off construction, caused by lack of funding.
But once the road was complete... people wouldn't stop driving it.
People who had family or friends working on the road came together this morning to share their stories.
Park Ranger Leslie Gaunt shares some of the stories she heard about the days during the road construction.
"People would come up here before the road was finished, when it was still dirt you know. They just wanted to see what does it look like, everybody was excited. It's a big deal to be able to get to the top of this bluff without doing a huge hike."
Park ranger Leslie gaunt says she heard one story about senior sneak dates to the top of the bluff.
After today's ribbon cutting, cars from the thirties and forties took the drive up to the top of the bluff.
