Stanford study says organic foods may not be more beneficial

Posted: Updated:

To eat organic? Or not to eat organic? That is the question.

The popularity of organic food is growing quickly, but these options can cost twice as much.

And a recent Stanford study is causing people to ask the question, is organic food really better for you?

The study finds little evidence that organic food is more nutritious, or carries less health risks than normal produce.

At best, the study shows organic foods can reduce the risk of pesticides.

Vendors at the 18th Street Farmers Market in Scottsbluff had mixed opinions on the results of the study.

"I don't think it's any more beneficial than normal produce."

"I think it was backed by companies that were trying to dumb down the public's awareness of organic, it's becoming the fastest growing segment of the food."

Stanford researchers say whether produce is organic or not, American's should still try to eat more fruits and vegetables.
