The Omaha suburb of Papillion is considering changing it's rules to allow as many as four backyard chickens per family.
But if you live in Scottsbluff and crave farm fresh eggs for breakfast you might have to go only as far as the coop behind your house.
Scottsbluff City Manager Rick Kuckkahn says under city ordinance, it's legal to have chickens as pets.
The law says you can have the animals as long as they aren't making too much noise or disrupting neighbors.
"Again, the idea is they're not being disruptive. I mean if all of a sudden you have 50, 60 chickens, that's obviously going to be a problem for your neighbor. If you have 4 or 5 or 6, that's not going to be a big deal."
The Papillion City Council will review the proposed rule change Tuesday and vote on it on October 2nd. If the rule passes, chicken owners would have to get licenses.
