State employees break record for charitable giving

Posted: Updated:

State employees receive recognition from the governor for their generosity.

More than four-thousand state workers contributed to the "Nebraska State Employees Charitable Giving Campaign" this year.

And the campaign has been the largest donor for the United Way for the last three years, thanks in part to generous workers.

Governor Dave Heineman says he's very proud of what state employees do to help Nebraskans every day with their jobs, and their generosity in giving charitable donations.

"I'm very pleased to announce that as of today, the State of Nebraska has pledged over 522-thousand dollars to the 2012 Charitable Giving Campaign," remarked Heineman. "That is a seventeen percent increase over last year, and represents an average gift of $129."

The state's campaign has raised more than $3.5 million since 2003, to support more than 400 charitable organizations through Nebraska.
