School lunches are healthier this year thanks to new federal guidelines but some local students find the changes a little hard to swallow.
There are plenty of vegetables available for all Scottsbluff Public School Students in the lunch line but the limitations on meats and grains leave some picky eaters hungry when the bell rings.
Scottsbluff Public School, Director of Finance, Lavon Hood says that should change once they realize they can actually fill up on fruits and veggies. "Some kids actually love that, they love the extra vegetables and other kids are saying I'm a little bit pickier eater so it's going to take a little more time to get them over the hump to understand the new diet changes."
In addition to fewer servings of meats and grains, the new lunch restrictions also regulate the amount of salt and fat that make it onto students' trays.
