Funding for a five-mile pathway project through Scottsbluff is finally secured by the Parks and Recreation Department.
More than three million dollars in federal grant funding is approved for the pathway, which will run from Riverside Park to the north end of Scottsbluff.
Parks and Recreation Director Perry Mader says it took quite a bit of grant writing to bring this project to fruition.
He is now working on the design phase with contractors M.C. Schaff.
Mader says it will still some time before groundbreaking begins, "Really, you're talking several years. Could be two, three year process from now. So groundbreaking, you won't' see for a while. So we just ask people understand it is a lengthy process and groundbreaking won't happen for some time."
The City of Scottsbluff is providing 600-thousand dollars in matching funds for the project.
