Term limits could be extended to three terms

Posted: Updated:

Voters will soon decide if Nebraska should modify term limits on state senators.

Amendment 3 wouldn't eliminate the term limits, but it would allow senators to run for a third term in office.

The term limit is currently two terms or a total of eight years.

The new amendment would allow for a 12 year term.

Senator John Harms says three terms is necessary to make changes.

"I'm not critical of term limits because the public has said they want us to have just two terms. But to be honest with you, I think if your going to have term limits three terms would be where you need to have."

Harms says three terms would give longer projects the time they need to get done.
