State auctions off close to $14k in unclaimed property

An EBAY auction stocked full of coins and jewelry brought in nearly $15,000.

The Nebraska State Treasurers office recently auctioned off 102 lots of unclaimed property.

Treasurer Don Stenberg says the money raised from the sale of each item in the auction will be held for the original owner or their hair.

The state auctions the items every 5 years after attempts to contact the owners are unsuccessful because there is just not enough space to keep it all forever.

The unclaimed property division has returned more than $5.2 million in unclaimed property so far this year.
