A proposed nursing home aimed at caring for Native Americans in Whiteclay has been delayed.
The proposed 60-bed facility near the South Dakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation was supposed to open last month but financial road blocks have delayed the opening for at least a year.
Trouble securing financing put the plans on hold until the Oglala Sioux Tribe was able to get a loan from the Shakopee Tribe in Minnesota.
Construction on the project has now started.
Nebraska Senator Leroy Louden says the facility is opening in Nebraska because South Dakota officials insisted they had enough beds to serve the population.
