The wheels on this old bike may not move anymore, but will still get many more miles out it.
A recycled bicycle is turned into art work at the Lied Scottsbluff Public Library.
Mayor Randy Meininger helped unveil the new addition during a dedication ceremony this afternoon.
A similar project at the Gering Library received rave reviews, so those creators were happy to sign on board for the new addition in Scottsbluff.
Today they explain their creative thought process for this artwork.
"In this case, you can certainly recycle the metal and just sell it for scrap," explains Doug Hoevet. "But I think this is a little unique in the sense its in front of the library, its in front of the kids section. Kids get to look at it and see the base of it as a bike frame."
"A butterfly is a wonderful symbol of hope and freedom," adds Traci Wilkes. "And when I got the freedom stuck in my head of course, naturally I had to use red white and blue."
Hoevet estimates 30 hours worth of labor went into completing this project.
