The 30th anniversary of "Banned Book Week" has Scottsbluff teens debating.
Banned book week celebrates the First Amendment the right to read.
This afternoon the Lied Scottsbluff Public Library conducted a banned book debate for teenagers.
This gives teens from sixth to twelfth grade a forum to discuss and debate banned books.
Students discussed the pros and cons of censorship of books, music and movies.
Library Director Abby Yellman says it's important to let these kids read and form their own opinions.
"For young adults it's very important because their starting to develop their own opinions. They're starting to develop what they believe in the world as they become adults and i think sometimes we pressure teenagers to think like we think."
The teens also had the chance to win prizes after the debate.
