Panhandle post offices facing reduction in hours

Postal officials will hold a series of meetings across Nebraska to determine the schedule of reduced post office hours.

One of the first meetings will be held in Crab Orchard on Tuesday. Other meetings are also planned in Bee, Brownville, Nemaha, Elk Creek, Endicott and Swanton.

All the towns affected will see the hours post offices are open reduced as part of the agency's efforts to save money. Some offices will be open as little as two hours a day after the changes.

The postal service expects to record $15 billion in losses this year, and in the past month, it missed two payments totaling $11.1 billion for future retiree benefits.

Hours will be changing at the following locations;

Harrison, Minatare, Potter, Dalton, Chugwater, Wyo., - reducing from 8 hours to 6 hours.

Lyman, Bushnell, Harrisburg, Dix, Lodgepole, Lewellen, Lisco, Gurley, Broadwater, Albin, Wyo., Carpenter, Wyo., Hillsdale, Wyo., Yoder, Wyo. and Ft. Laramie Wyo.- reducing from 8 hours to 4 hours.

Melbeta will be reducing its hours of operation from 6 hours to 2 hours.

Angora will be reducing its hours from 4 hours to 2 hours.

And Hartville Wyo. will be reducing its hours from 6 to 2 hours.
