Scottsbluff Monument Marathon organizers are expecting a couple hundred runners this week.
The Platte Valley Monument Marathon is the first event of its kind.
320 runners from around the country will compete in the half marathon, while 100 runners will attempt running the full marathon.
The race is expected to attracts tourists and stimulate revenue for local businesses.
The Hampton Inn in Scottsbluff has fully booked the marathon rooms.
"As far as we're concerned this has far exceeded our expectations. When they blocked the rooms off we said yeah we'll do what we can to help you fill them. And when it instantly filled up we thought wow this is the real thing."
More than 150 volunteers from the community will be on hand.
Parking volunteers and massage therapists are still needed.
