One Panhandle Organization works to give area children a head start in the classroom.
The Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska held their annual event providing free eye exams to area preschoolers.
The program teams up with local Optometrists and has been serving the community for the last 40 years.
Director Sarah Ochoa says the early testing program helps catch the problem earlier in kids.
"What we're finding out is that sooner that they can detect vision problems the better it is for the child because it helps with their reading...a lot of their social skills that they learn. You do a lot with your vision."
Today eye doctors tested close to 150 preschoolers.
Ochoa says about 10 percent of them will need glasses or further testing.
