October is breast cancer awareness month ... And with it comes the reminder to get your annual mammogram.
Doctors at Regional West Medical Center stress the importance of all women getting an annual mammogram.
They say stats show one in every seven American women will develop breast cancer at some point in her life.
With more awareness, prevention and early detection, deaths from breast cancer nationwide declined over the last few years.
Regional West recommends women older than 35 who have never had a mammogram should schedule one.
Nurse Susan Shoeneman says the visit takes less than an hour.
"If we can catch breast cancer early we have great outcomes. It can be curative. Mammograms are a great screening tool for breast cancer to be diagnosed."
Shoeneman says Regional West streamlines their breast health services, so there's barely a waiting time for patients.
