Nebraska works to help veterans in job search

Posted: Updated:

Welcome back, Nebraska is increasing recruitment efforts to pair recent war veterans with jobs in the Cornhusker state.

Governor Dave Heineman says more veteran based job fairs will take place across the state.

Heineman says he hopes a promotional online video continues to help with recruitment.

The campaign builds on existing state efforts to employ veterans, such as the veterans affairs programs available at Western Nebraska Community College.

Work Force Development Dean, Jason Stratman says there's been a good response from its wind energy and commercial driving programs.

"We've been having really good success through the GI-Bill. So our veterans, from at least what I've heard, have been very happy with the types of emphasis programs that we have here and just the variety of educational offerings we can get them, to get them employable and on the job quickly."

Stratman says there is also a lot of additional financial incentives and assistance out there for returning war veterans.
