A KOTA Territory city may be getting a new library.
A city-owned property at Gering's main intersection is being considered for the new library.
The old McKee property is at the northeast corner of 10th and M Street.
City council members say this intersection is the best for community and business development.
The plans include a 18,000 square foot library with 4,000 square-feet going towards retail use.
Gering City Council member Larry Gibbs says libraries are becoming more multimedia, so the library needs to make changes to keep up.
"It's still an important gathering area for the community," explains Gibbs, "And it's important that we have a modern, current facility for people in the community and surround areas to use."
The negotiations of the library continue because of the existing businesses on the property.
