Fire officials are saying the Spotted Tail Fire located five miles south of Chadron is nearing containment.
During the Monday morning briefing, Jack Rhembrandt, Assistant Fire Chief for the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department said, "Things are going really well out there and it's looking good 100 feet into the black." He reminds the public, "It is late October but it can still burn out there. We ask everyone to be wise about their activities."
The official GPS measures for the Spotted Tail Fire are 83 acres with a 2.1 mile perimeter that lies entirely on the Pine Ridge Ranger District of the Nebraska National Forests & Grasslands. Fire officials called the fire 95% contained Sunday afternoon and emphasized the need for the public to avoid the area for safety purposes.
Resources from the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department and US Forest Service remain on scene. The Forest Service will provide additional information this afternoon unless conditions change.
