One local organization is making it easier for people in need.
The Action Partnership of Western Nebraska's mission is simple, to help. On average the food pantry serves about 150 families a month. The group provides food, coats and countless other things to help families get by. The winter months are especially important.
"One of the things that we really see is that the need for food is often tied where our energy prices are, so when gas goes up, when electricity bills go up and of course when our heating bills go up in the winter then we certainly see, you know, that income for families can really only come from their food budget."
The organization is also gearing up for their annual holiday gift and food program. Anybody is encouraged to bring non–perishable foods, coats and other gifts to their headquarters in Gering.
