Sugar beet production at an all-time high

Posted: Updated:

The dry weather hasn't hurt one Panhandle crop from thriving.

2012 has been a record year for Nebraska's sugar beet crop.   As of Friday, Nebraska's harvest was 91 percent complete.   Western Sugar Manager Jerry Darnell says production has averaged about 29 tons per acre and sugar content is about 18 %, both records.

The record numbers can be attributed to a few things including better seed and pest resistance.
