The Gering girl who called 9-1-1 to report a male with what *she* thought was a gun is commended for her actions.
Shortly after 2 p.m. Monday, police were sent to the area near Gering High School. A girl says she saw a boy in a blue hoodie with a gun sticking out from under it.
Nearby schools quickly went into lockdown.
Police found a person wearing a blue hoodie, but did not match any other descriptions.
Sergeant Travis Enlow says from a safety standpoint, the call was merited. "This would definitely be a 9-1-1 call," explains Sgt. Enlow. "Anytime anybody sees anything they even think that would resemble a weapon near a school- absolutely stop what you're doing, call the police directly, and get us involved."
The lockdown at Gering High School was lifted within 50 minutes... after the area was secured.
