Community members happy to donate to "Gift of Love" program

Community members start the season of giving by picking a name off a tree.

The Scottsbluff/ Gering Chamber of Commerce hosted business after-hours last night at First State Bank. The event coincided with the kickoff of the annual Gift of Love program.

Attendees were asked to pick a child's name off the tree and buy the few items listed on the card.

Local attorney John Selzer says members from his law firm always pick a couple of names off the tree because it's an easy way to help families in need.

"And you think, these kids get to pick these things out- and they're very unselfish to want things like clothes and diapers and just small toys," explains Selzer. "You don't see anything big on there. They're not asking for the world, just some simple needs to have a nice holiday."

Approximately 300 names are on the "Tree of Love," and anybody can help out by picking a name and buying what's on the card.
