Have you ever wondered what happens to all those pumpkins that aren't used on Halloween?
Turns out they are being used to feed cattle.
Range Management Specialist Karla Jenkins says pumpkins are a good source of energy and have enough protein for cattle.
Jenkins says although this practice has been around for a while, it's even more important with this year's drought.
"It's gonna be important for producers to think outside the box for alternative feeds and some salvage crops are going to be very useful to cattle producers. Others are going to require some management to use."
Jenkins says it's important to distinguish which type of feed is best for each animal.
